I was born and raised in Brighton, TN, and I consider West Tennessee my home and my mission field. I married my wife, April, in 2000 and we have two wonderful children, Andrew and Anna. I have served local churches in West TN for over 27 years. My story is one of recovery from alcohol and drug use. Overcoming addiction was a struggle, but God walked with me through this hardship and taught me a new way of living that comes through a relationship with Jesus Christ as He works in us to renew our minds (Romans 12). By His grace, I am free! There are many who struggle with addiction inside and outside the church, and I have served this community through the local church for many years now. Church revitalization is not unlike recovery from an addiction. Those in addiction have to learn to first step out of denial and acknowledge that their life is a wreck and that they need help. If they could change themselves, they would have already done it! So too churches needing revitalization must acknowledge that what they have been doing is not working, if they had the power to change the direction the church is heading they would have already done it! They must step out of denial and trust God to lead them down the path of revitalization and renewal. Some studies suggest that as many as 7 out of 10 churches are in a state of decline and dying. This is true of both large and small congregations. Large churches and smaller congregations alike are struggling to find a path forward that causes them to be influential in their communities for Christ and His Kingdom, move out of their current state of decline, and thrive again for the glory of God! This is what I believe God is calling me to do. Help churches thrive again!!
I am blessed to have over 27 years of ministry experience serving various churches across Western TN. I am a graduate of Union University with both a B.A. in Biblical Studies (Minor in Biblical Languages), and a Master’s of Christian Studies (M.C.S.). I also hold a Master’s of Divinity in Biblical Studies (M.Div) from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary at Liberty University. I hold two certifications: (1) Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) with the State of Tennessee, and (2) Certified Church Revitalization Consultant through Thomas Rainers’ organization, Church Answers. I am the author of Discipleship Revitalized: Intentionally Becoming the Salt of the Earth, in which I present a discipleship strategy that intentionally moves believers from infancy to maturity in Christ and encourages the church to revitalize its discipleship efforts. “It is my desire to come alongside churches that are declining and dying and walk with them through a process of revitalization. I want to encourage both the leadership and your congregation that with God all things are possible. God desires for the church to thrive, not just survive! The best days are not behind you, but ahead of you as your church learns to see with fresh eyes what Christ is already doing and how to join Him in the work. Your church can thrive again and become a powerful force for the cause of Christ in your community! I consider it an honor to walk with you on the path to revitalization.“
